This year Hershey Christian School has selected Mrs. Lisa Bonfanti as the recipient of the Lion’s Club Outstanding Educational Service Recognition Award.

Lisa has earned degrees in French and English from Grove City College and a secondary teaching certificate from Lebanon Valley College. Over the past twenty-three years she has taught French and English at the Dauphin County Technical School and for three home school organizations. During the past eight years, she has taught high school English at Hershey Christian.

Lisa, affectionately known as “Mrs. B” by all of her students, is the epitome of a master educator. She is regarded by faculty and students alike as an incredible teacher, a wonderful communicator, a devoted mentor, a loyal friend, and a strong woman of faith. Lisa loves teaching and pours her heart into her students’ education. She tells her students “Your education is my passion.” She has the unique ability to take a tough high school subject…make it tougher…and have the kids love her for it! Her students come away being exceptionally well prepared for their future education.

But even more than that Lisa loves and cares deeply for her students. ..and they know it! She is known throughout the student body as the one to go the extra mile. She spends every free moment tutoring and discipling her students…always challenging them to grow academically, spiritually and emotionally. Lisa

In the words of one of her seniors: “I have known Mrs. B for 4 years now. She has not only been an incredible teacher but she has been my “coach” and my friend. She makes me smile and laugh and I know I can go to her if I need to talk. She will pray with me. And she always points me to God. She has given me a special appreciation for English and she has prepared me for college and life in so many ways, both spiritually and academically.”

At Hershey Christian School, we believe true learning is getting out and using your talents. We also believe that competition can spur on one’s greatest learning moments. The setting was York, Pennsylvania where two excellent 6th grade competitors from Hershey Christian School stepped into the ACSI Spelling Bee arena. Alex Beck and Nathan Foster have competed before, but the battle that was about to ensue will be one to remember. Among 30 other competitors Alex Beck emerged in the 13th round as one of the finalist. For the next 12 rounds Alex Beck and a representative from Harrisburg Christian School went toe to toe spelling words like crazy. In round 25, Alex Beck and the word -Ostracize- captured the title. From there, it was off to the District ACSI Spelling Bee with 16 of the top 5th-8th graders. Again the competition was fierce and one to remember. At one point in the competition there was a 13 way tie for fourth place. Alex was among the 13 and through a list which Alex had never seen before found a way to take home 6th place as 2nd alternate for the Regional ACSI Spelling Bee. We are extremely proud of Alex and Nathan for their tremendous effort and of course, the lessons of intense preparation and poise will never be forgotten.
